A fundraising motor rally staged at an RAF station is under threat.

The King’s Lynn and District Motor Club has raised thousands of pounds with a stages rally held at the airbase.

Last year’s event, in November, raised £870 which has been donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance, but the rally faces an uncertain future.

“This is quite a blow and a great shame because it has been our main fundraising event for many years. The club will, however, continue to support the air ambulance through its other motorsport activities,” said club chairman Mark Banham.

The Ministry of Defence has refused permission for the rally to take place for the foreseeable future following complaints about noise from local residents.

The recent cheque presentation took place at the Hylton Gott Volvo dealership at Crimplesham and featured the Subaru Impreza WRC which won last year’s event and was crewed by club members Ray Brammer and Mark Loomes.

The club’s classic car rally will be on Sunday, July 3 and will start at Dent’s Farm Shop, Hilgay. See the website
