King’s Lynn Fury held their nerve in front of a packed Lynnsport to score 10 of 12 free throw attempts in the final minute to hold back a late surge from West Herts Warriors and close out an 82-73 National Development League victory.
Fury went into the fourth quarter 62-46 ahead and the omens were good but, possibly as a result of over-confidence, Fury made some errors, allowing Warriors to use a 13-4 run to bring the deficit down to five points.
As Warriors sought to slow the game and deny Fury any opportunity to run down the clock Arnas Mazilialiskas and Eivydas Aleska hit five of six from the line to put Fury into a more comfortable zone. That was briefly threatened by a triple from Warriors but Ethan Allen and Aleska hit a further five from six at the stripe to close out the contest.
Mazilialiskas paced the Fury with 25 points; Aleska added 16 and Mindaugas Spukas a further 11.
Fury have back to back home games this weekend. On Saturday they host Cambridge Cats, 6pm, and on Sunday Dagenham Dragons are the visitors, 2pm. Fury hope to have Deividas Butkevicius back in their line-up after being absent due to injury.
