RUGBY UNION: It has been a good first half of the season for West Norfolk as they go into the festive break on top of London League North East Three.

West look forward to an exciting start to the New Year.

First they host Swaffham in the Junior Norfolk Cup on January 2, before entering a period of league action, crucial to their promotion ambitions.

West will face closest title challengers Epping Upper Clapton at the end of the month, but will need to see off the threat of third-placed Old Cooperians first as they play host to the Essex side on January 9.

With strong competition from the younger players in the senior sides, combined with some recent ‘return to rugby’ initiatives, the West Development squad has grown from strength to strength.

This solid foundation has been the basis of a string of good results, which includes wins over Diss, Holt and Beccles.

Head coach Lee Parry said “Credit goes to the boys and everyone involved with the club to be where we are in the league.

“Everyone has bought into what we are doing and there is a real ‘whole club’ feel about where we are going.”

If West do achieve a second promotion in three years to move into London North East Two, it will be the first time in 13 years the club has competed at that level.
