RUGBY UNION: West Norfolk took full advantage of London North East Three leaders Epping Upper Clapton’s shock defeat at Southwold to go top of the table.
West were convincing 67-17 victors at Wanstead to open a four-point advantage as the season approaches the midway point.
West got off to a flying start with Ross Biggs scorching over but Wanstead hit back swiftly.
A second try came when prop Lawrence Savage crashed over and another flowing move saw Sam Moses make a break and offload for Jake Richardson to outpace his opposite number to score. Lewys Weaver adding the extras to make it 17-5.
A mazy break from Hoyles released Biggs to score again with a penalty try and another from Richardson handing the visitors a 38-5 lead at the break.
Weaver struck an early second half blow but the hosts hit back to narrow the gap to 45-17.
West regrouped and scrum half Sam Greenwood darted through before Lee Williamson powered over and Weaver burst through to complete the rout and put West top of the table with news of Epping’s 27-17 defeat on the Suffolk coast.
