West Norfolk Junior Badminton players and coaches line up for the start of a new season.

BADMINTON: The West Norfolk Junior Badminton development squad has started the new season at its regular base of KES in King’s Lynn.

The squad welcomes back head coach Robin Cooper, a level-two coach, who trains various county junior squads, as well as being a tutor assessor and coach for national development days on behalf of Badminton England.

He will be supported by local level-two coach Jeremy Wakefield and new level-one coaches Ben Watts and Arjun Bendre.

Players are invited by junior club coaches across the borough to attend the squad training. As players progress, coaches from the squad and clubs recommend them to the Norfolk Junior County Association assessments.

About 12 players from West Norfolk are in the various junior county squads.

Club captain Ben Watts, will lead the teams in matches and support younger players at tournaments and events.

West Norfolk Juniors will be playing two matches, one home and one away, against the Lincoln Development squad, and also against other clubs from around Norfolk.

It is hoped to run a trip to the All England Championships in Birmingham in March.

Later this month members of West Norfolk Juniors will be at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes to be put through their paces by two former England squad members and coaches, including Paul Truman and Julia Mann, with 12 hours coaching over two days, with a chance to relax on the Saturday night bowling in town.
