Players of the season for U12, Sam Phillips, U16s, Joe Mayes and U14s, George Lemon and team managers.

As the season comes to an end, there have been presentations at clubs around the area.

Chairman Chris Dungay welcomed a large gathering to the 2015 Annual Downham Town Cricket Club’s presentation evening.

In his opening remarks he said the club had experienced injuries to key players and a certain lack of commitment and enthusiasm by ‘fringe’ players.

However, despite the lack of players both the senior teams had finished fifth in their respective divisions of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance. The third eleven suffered, and only five games were played. Hopefully the situation will improve to enable the third eleven to take its place in the newly formed Norfolk League (West) Division 4 in 2016.

He went on to say that during the 2015 season the Youth Section had flourished and from a base of some 15 members at the start of the season numbers had increased to well over 50, mainly due to the efforts of Niel Wynn and David Grady and their helpers.

Club Captain, Duncan Lanchester, thanked the chairman for his help, Don Rowell for his continued fundraising; the tea ladies and their helpers; scorer Jo Barnard, the assistant groundsmen and social secretary Ash Corbett.

He said the 2015 season had not been the success of previous years due to unforeseen circumstances such as losing Alex Stuart. Hopefully he will be fit enough to return in 2016, and also Addam Todd who missed the first half of the season with a dislocated finger.

One player stood out –Nick Kelly, and the club was grateful to have an overseas player of his class. He broke club records for his batting with a total league aggregate of 1,126 runs and an average of 86.62 He also captured 35 wickets  and held on to 10 catches.

The club also won the West Norfolk Indoor League and the Mundford Cup, with the Final of the Bernard Matthews Midweek Cup this Sunday

Stow CC held the end of season junior presentation evening (pictured top right), all teams competed well and ended the season second in their respective leagues.

Thanks were given to the coaches, managers and helpers, without whom the club could not run as effectively as it does.
