ROUNDERS: Gather round for a trip back to your school days…
Your Local Paper has teamed up with Alive Sports Development to stage a community rounders event for West Norfolk.
It takes place on the River Lane playing fields at Lynnsport on Sunday, September 27.
There will be two tournaments – one for adults (mixed teams of up to nine players, aged 16-plus) and one for adults and young people combined (mixed teams of up to nine players including at least two eight-16 year olds).
The event is part of a countywide initiative to develop rounders. Active Norfolk has joined forces with the UEA Sportspark to organise rounders events all over the county.
The Sportspark is supplying officials to assist Alive Sports Development on the day.
The event comes as a result of increased interest in the sport through the Village Games and Corporate Games initiatives and is seen as a taster to a possible future league competition.
Alive Leisure’s Sports Development manager Adam Garford said: “The game is gaining interest as a fun sport that anyone can play.
“It’s ideal for male and females to play together and also adults and young people too. The game is simply great fun for everyone, so we hope that the tournament will see lots of people raising teams, from workplaces and schools to villages and families.”
Sarah Byatt from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and also a Village Sports co-ordinator for Leziate is pleased to see the event take place and said: “I know there is great interest among some of the QE staff and I’m expecting at least four or five teams to enter.
The Leziate team in the village games really enjoyed the competition in June so I’m sure they’ll be entering too.”
Entry into the event is free and the closing date for entry is Monday, September 21. There will be medals for winners and runners-up.
