SAILING: West Norfolk’s Fergus Barnham is taking part in two national championships this summer.
He will be competing in the RS Aero Championship at the end of August and the 2000 Class starting on August 10. He has competed in the class championship several times with best results of fourth in 2013 and fifth in 2014.
The RS Aero is a boat he has recently started sailing, in competition with his brother Finlay.
Barnham said: “The RS Aero is the fastest growing class in the UK and I am keen to get stuck in.
“There will probably be 40 or 50 boats taking part at Weymouth National Sailing Academy, the home of British competitive dinghy sailing, and where the 2012 Olympics were held. It is an exciting boat to sail, it accelerates very quickly, and it is quite physical.”
Fergus started sailing at Snettisham Beach at the age of six encouraged by his mum and dad Laura and Jasper Barnham, who have been 2000 Class national champions three times.
