Three athletes from West Norfolk AC have been selected to represent Norfolk Schools at the English Schools National Track and Field Championships.
Representing the county at the Gateshead International Stadium today and tomorrow will be Megan Rushmore, Lucy Koenigsberger and Jude Falkner.
Wymondham College pupil Rushmore is in her fourth and final Nationals and will be competing as a senior girl.
KES’ Koenigsberger and Falkner (Smithdon) will be competing in their first as junior girls.
It is the first time in 10 years the club has had three athletes at the championships and the first time that all three will compete in the same discipline, the hammer.
Rushmore’s season has been restricted due to her studies towards her A-levels. With only three competitions behind her, she has bettered the English Schools standard on all three occasions and become the Norfolk County and Norfolk Schools champion.
Koenigsberger and Falkner have had a competition between themselves all season. Falkner’s personal best from last year was 23.00m, which she improved to 26.97 in May.
Koenigsberger then won the Norfolk Counties title with a throw of 32.27m and a new club record. At the Norfolk Schools Koenigsberger increased the record to 35.79m only for Falkner to throw 36.34m to take it back and win the title with Koenigsberger second.
On a wet Saturday the following week, Koenigsberger won the Anglian Schools title with a throw of 33.13.
Koenigsberger won the Eastern Counties Championships shot putt with a club record 10.36m that had stood for 26 years.
In the hammer she had an even better day, adding five metres to her best and taking back the club record with 39.63m.
