Wet weather conditions failed to dampen the spirits of athletes from West Norfolk AC at the Anglian Schools Athletics Championships at Peterborough.
Abigail Rice ran an impressive 100m with a fourth place finish and time of 13.5.
She went on to join the Norfolk girls’ relay team, running a powerful last leg and bringing the team home in second place.
Lucy Koenigsberger threw a strong and determined hammer during drizzling rain, with a fine distance of 33.13.
As the rain continued, Emma Dwedney jumped a valiant pole vault with a height of 2.05m, just 1cm off her personal best and setting her up for third place.
The boys team included discus thrower Mason Higby. Despite slippery conditions during his throws, he continued to compose himself and managed a respectable distance of 20.73m.
Nathan Smalls was in long jump action, finishing seventh with a distance of 4.89m.
Charlie Williams competed in the 300m and powered through a tough race to finish fifth with a personal best time of 39.95 to set a new West Norfolk AC record.
Williams then joined the boys’ relay team, running a strong first leg and equalled the girls with a second place finish.
Unfortunately, two of the athletes from West Norfolk, Megan Rushmore and Jude Faulkner who had qualified to compete, were unable to join the team due to
school examination commitments.
