A proposal to move the post office at Upwell into a shop has been given the go-ahead, despite objections from villagers.
The Post Office Ltd said the relocation from the current address in Town Street to G and B Superstore Ltd further along the same road will continue as planned.
South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss said she was ‘disappointed’ with the decision and she pledged to make sure the concerns expressed about access, parking and privacy at the new site were taken on board.
“I will continue to support the parish council in securing this,” she said.
The environment minister attended a public meeting held in March with parish and district councillors, a representative of Post Office Ltd and residents where objections were raised.
A date for the move has not yet been announced. A spokesman for Post Office Ltd said the branch would become one of its modern, open-plan branches which will be open extra hours and seven days a week.
