TABLE TENNIS: Heacham Table Tennis League ran their second hard bat tournament of the year at Ripper Hall, Docking.

The event attracted 24 players in groups of six playing on four tables. Winners and runners-up on each table went into the quarter-finals.

Charley Hammond beat Vaughan Parker, Alan Ashberry beat Graham Keeley, Aaron Howell beat Simon Rayner and Chris Fuller beat Ian Rix to set up the semi-final line-up.

Ashberry beat Howell in a close match and Fuller beat Hammond.

In the final, defending champion Ashberry had another close match, beating Fuller two games to one and it was 9-9 when the 10-minute whistle went to finish the match.

It was another great day enjoyed by everyone.

The event was in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £325.

Thanks were expressed to all who donated and who played their part in helping to raise the money.

In Heacham League action, Spivs Specials team of Jim Race, Jeff Race and Stephen Jackson were up against the visiting Ringstead Raiders trio of Paul Humeniuk, Mark Hipkin and Justin Mullins.

This was the doubles format and the first game of the night was a real classic when the Races took on Humeniuk and Hipkin.

The first two ends were shared and a long third end saw the Specials edge home 19-17. The fourth end could also have gone either way but once again the Specials edged home, this time 14-12.

Many more close games followed but it was the Specials who came away with a 9-0 win.

At Sedgeford, Mike Wade, Dan Witley and Chris Woolley represented Savages against a visiting Malc’s Marvels team of Charley Hammond and super subs Alex Bragg and Debbie Peel.

Once again there was some close games with two five-enders and two four-enders but it was once again a 9-0 win for the Marvels.

The Marvels are now 13 points ahead of Adrian’s Allstars with just two outstanding matches to play.

Spivs Specials take on Adrian’s Allstars with the crucial match seeing the Allstars meet Malc’s Marvels.
