Happidojo Marham Judo Club members at a recent grading

JUDO: What a year it has been for the former Marham Judo Club.

Since head coach Colin McCallum (2nd Dan and UKCC Level 2 coach) took over the running last March, the club has been rebranded and is now Happidojo Marham Judo Club.

The club has gone from strength to strength and the current medal tally is 26 gold, 28 silvers and 41 bronzes, ranging from interclub, regional and county to ranking and national events.

Tae Charlesworth is the National A Band gold medallist, with Cameron McCallum having came fifth. Cailean McCallum and Neith Charlesworth are the British Schools 2015 bronze medallists, while Zachary McCallum was fifth at the British National Championships and was selected for the England squad for pre-cadets.

Club gradings have been run, promoting children and adults through the various mon/kyu grades, right up to black belt, while Dan gradings have seen head coach McCallum achieve his 2nd Dan, son Cailean McCallum his 1st Dan and coach Dave Henderson get 40 points towards his 1st Dan.

The club have also had members achieve junior referee qualifications – Cailean McCallum, gold; Zachary McCallum, silver; and Sarah Cusack, Neith and Rune Charlesworth, bronze

Master classes have been run at the club by Dave Southby (6th Dan) and Steve Gawthorpe. (6th Dan), while members have also attended master classes elsewhere, run by Olympian Colin Oates, Nekoda Davies, Sophie Cox and Craig Fallon.

The club have also accessed the Eastern Area squad.

Due to the continuing success of Happidojo Marham, which runs on Thursday nights, another club, Happidojo Iceni Academy started in January and runs on Mondays at Iceni Academy in Methwold.
