VILLAGE GAMES: Launch for this year’s big event.
Let the rivalry begin as West Norfolk’s inter-village games were launched this week.
This is the 23rd year of this successful sports event open to all ages and all sizes of villages.
The games are taking place on Sunday June, 28 from 10am to 4pm, and any one of 90 villages in the borough can take part.
This year, the games will be sponsored by King’s Lynn Audi and King’s Lynn Volkswagen.
Alive Sports Development has taken over the organisation from the borough council, and is looking forward to building a new business partnership with both of them.
Defending champions are Terrington St Clement (medium villages) and Massingham and Harpley (small villages).
The games remain the same as recent years with events for adults and children ranging from football and bowls to fitness triathlon and a fun Gladiator Challenge in Lynnsport’s Gymnastics Centre.
There are 19 events to choose from in total and a village can enter as many as they choose.
Roger Partridge, sports development manager and event organiser since 1992 said: “The games are like West Norfolk’s very own Olympics. There is always a fantastic atmosphere and it’s great to see all the villages of West Norfolk take over the whole of the Lynnsport sports complex for the day.
“The event culminates in a very exciting presentation ceremony with the Borough Mayor and nobody knows the winning villages until the very end.”
Elizabeth Nockolds, Alive Leisure Trustee and council member, said: “Alive Leisure is very pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with VW and Audi which we are sure will result in another marvellous games for West Norfolk villages. The games, together with the Village Sport Coordinator scheme, are central to Alive Leisure’s service delivery and show our commitment in providing for the rural parts of our borough.”
