A King’s Lynn man will be taking to the saddle for a marathon 1,000-mile bike ride later this year.
Barber Andrew King is aiming to raise £2,600 for the Orchid Cancer charity and will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats over the course of 12 days.
“Orchid raises money for men’s charities and I thought, being a barber, that it would be a good cause to help,” said Mr King, 43.
He is a barber at Mr Snippers, in St James Street, Lynn, and said his customers had been supportive of his efforts.
“Apart from raising money, I am also hoping to raise awareness of men’s cancer as it doesn’t seem to get the publicity it should,” said Mr King.
He cycled from London to Paris two years ago, but said the journey taking him from one end of the country to the other would be a real challenge.
The long-distance ride begins on May 5 at Land’s End and equates to about 80 miles a day for each of the group of 24 cyclists from around the country.
“It is going to be a tough one, but I am looking forward to it,” he said.
Accommodation has been booked along the way for the group at the end of each cycling day.
“It was quite tough doing the Paris ride – but this is further and it will be hard work, but I am training for it,” he said.
Mr King has worked at the barbers since he left school in 1985 and joined his father Colin at Mr Snippers.
He is now a partner in the business, which has seven barbers.
