Dan Stephenson breaks clear during West Norfolk's win at Stowmarket

RUGBY UNION: West Norfolk held off a late fightback by Stowmarket to take all the London League Three North East points in Suffolk.

Wests led 17-3 with only 15 minutes to go and had withstood solid home pressure before conceding a converted try to make it 17-10.

But the visitors dug deep and pulled clear in the closing stages to earn a 31-10 victory.

Stowmarket had started the stronger with a series of powerful attacking bursts from their large pack and centre combination. They missed a penalty chance and West made them pay when full-back Ross Biggs cut through for a try, converted by Monty Maule. A penalty made it 7-3 but Jake Richardson went over to make it 12-3. An altercation saw both sides reduced to 14 men  with the hosts soon down to 13 after another infringement.

Captain Lawrence Savage crashed over to give the visitors a 17-3 half time advantage and that looked good enough for victory until Stow hit back.

It was left to Savage to complete a brace of tries to secure the bonus point before winger Alex Singleton scorched down the left touch line to score.Tulip Man of the Match Maule
