It is the end of an era for a West Norfolk retained fire station.
After 40 years, Michael Neeve has left the service which he joined when he was an apprentice in the village.
Mr Neeve finally called it a day at midnight on December 31 after attending his last call-out on Christmas Day to a chimney fire.
He worked for WH Kerkham for 30 years and joined the retained crew while at the company in 1974.
“I have been very lucky in that my employers over the years have always been very understanding and supportive,” he said.
Mr Neeve, 61, currently works for CW Engineering, of King’s Lynn.
He said he had enjoyed his years in the service and would miss working with his colleagues at the Benns Lane station .
“After most of the calls I was back at work within the hour, but occasionally there was something much more serious which took a lot longer,” he said.
Mr Neeve was promoted to leading fireman in 1990 and was watch manager at Terrington.
