Shoppers had a surprise on Tuesday when members of the Red Hat Society performed a flashmob dance routine.

The music, Here Come the Girls, signalled the start of a 20-minute routine, which involved 30 members from three chapters of the society.

They performed in the foyer of the Tesco and Dobbies stores on the Hardwick Industrial Estate at King’s Lynn.

Members of the Lynn Ruby Reds, Sunny Hunny Belles from Hunstanton and  the Gadabout Girls from Wisbech performed routines to five songs.

They all wore purple T-shirts with red stetson-style hats and some had feather boas.

Kathy Cox, Queen of the Lynn Ruby Reds, said it was “fantastic”.

Mrs Cox said they had planned the event since August after they saw an American flashmob on YouTube.

“We said we could do better than that and then decided we should do it,” said Mrs Cox.

Carol Faulkner from the Gadabout Girls choreographed the routines and members had the music on CDs to practice at home.

Some of the Lynn and Hunstanton members also met and rehearsed at West Lynn Community Sports and Social Club.

Mrs Cox said the performance was a thank-you to their families and also showed how members liked to enjoy themselves.
