King’s Lynn’s Saturday Market Place will not be re-opened to traffic tomorrow, as planned.

Wet weather and a mechanical breakdown during the last few days means the road should now open in next week.

Work will still continue in the area, but the road, pavement and car parking area should be open again, depending on the weather, by the end of the week.

The area has been closed to traffic since August when work started on a major £650,000 project to enhance it with new paving, improved parking new lighting and seating and by making access easier to many of the important buildings there.

Sewer works were carried out at the same time.

A new crossing point near the High Street (pictured) has now been completed.  The works will continue around the plaza area at St Margaret’s Place to complete the paving.

This will include laying slabs that have been etched to show the outline of the old Charnel Chapel which was uncovered again during the project.
