Today we are joining forces with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to raise enough money for a fleet of new wheelchairs.

Whether you are in the accident and emergency department, or the maternity unit, chances are you will need a wheelchair at some point.

The QEH has an urgent need to replace the wheelchairs which are used around the hospital and Your Local Paper is helping.

It’s not a huge amount of money, but within the National Health Service, every penny counts.

So we are asking our readers to help us raise £24,000 to buy 30 new wheelchairs for patients at the hospital.

There are 22,000 free copies of Your Local Paper picked-up each week. All we are asking is for our readers to contribute £1 – more if you can afford it. But if everyone can give £1 then the appeal would be all-but over very quickly.

The hospital is asking our readers to get involved – each chair costs £800 and it is hoped that communities, businesses or schools will club together to buy one.

The chairs will have a plaque on the back acknowledging the donors.
Your Local Paper will also print the names of companies, individuals and organisations that contribute to the Wheel Appeal.

“We are delighted to be involved with such a worthwhile fundraising campaign and I am sure our readers will support the Wheel Appeal. Let’s work together and raise the money as quickly as we can. Wheelchairs are a vital piece of equipment,” said Donna Semmens, editor.

“If anyone has been to the QEH, or has known someone who has, then you will soon realise how important the wheelchairs are,” she added.

There are lots of ways you can contribute to the appeal and Your Local Paper wants to hear about any fundraising efforts.

How about four schools joining together to raise £200 each for one chair? Or two companies could share a chair and contribute £400 each.

Neighbouring villages could also get together to raise the money.

So if you would like to help raise money and help the Wheel Appeal then get in touch.

Email your event or fundraiser to: and put WHEEL APPEAL in the subject line of your message.

Anything from a coffee morning to a sponsored leg wax would help and we will publicise all Wheel Appeal events.

Donate £1 if you can – even if it’s 50p a week for two weeks – and fingers crossed you will never have to use one of our new wheelchairs.
