SWIMMING: West Norfolk’s impressive start to the season continued in fine style at the Iceni Gala at Dereham with three trophies against teams including St Felix School, Norwich Swan and Beccles.

A 60-strong team ranging in age from nine to 19 came away with the Top Boy, Top Girl, and Top Team trophies.

Swimmers across the age range set impressive personal bests. Nine year olds Harry Sharpe and Henry Overton dominated their age group.

Robert Addis, 10, furthered his reputation and Alex Hall and Freddie Laws were impressive.

Joseph Wells had numerous wins, along with Alex Florance. Nathan Wells and Ryan Sykes traded wins and PBs, while Zack Campbell-Maughan was unstoppable. His consistent performances earned him the Top Boy trophy.

Consistent performances also came from Natalie Coogans, Sophie Empson, Astrid Hubbard, Rachel Johnson, Molly Lee, Jenny Read and Roxanne Uys for the girls with Elise Sorrell taking a string of top three places to snatch the Top Girl trophy.

Every swimmer contributed to the success and it was no surprise when West Norfolk lifted the Top Visiting Club trophy too.

λ After winning the Junior Fenland League C final last year, West Norfolk stepped up to the B final at Whittlesey against hosts City of Ely, Peterborough B, First Strokes and Mildenhall.

Team captains Jacob Isle and Alice Ireland led by example, winning two races each. Katelin Taylor and Freddie Laws matched that to put West Norfolk into an early lead.

Wins were also earned by Rosie Muspratt and Harry Sharpe with many others recording personal bests to help rack up enough points to finish third under the guidance of team manager Chris Sykes.
