SPEEDWAY: King’s Lynn Stars will face the Elite League’s top team in the play-off semi-finals after falling narrowly short of clinching top spot themselves.

A 48-42 defeat at Belle Vue in their final meeting on Monday saw the Stars finish level on total points with Poole Pirates but adrift on points difference.

It was harsh for the injury-hit Stars who had topped the table for most of the season and Poole were quick to rub in the salt, picking them as their semi-final opponents, no doubt hoping for an easier ride.

The first leg is at the Norfolk Arena on Monday with the return at Wimborne Road on October 6.

Guest rider Hans Andersen top scored for the Stars on a night that saw some of the more experienced riders struggle.

Team manager Rob Lyon said: “I am pleased we have the first leg at home. The boys are a bit down at the moment but we will pick them up.”

Stars at Belle Vue: Andersen 13, Lambert 6, Harris 3, Porsing 5, Schlein 3, Kerr 7+1, Clegg 5+1.
