West Norfolk’s first community-run pub is getting ready to officially open its doors.

The King’s Arms in Shouldham has been saved by a co-operative of villagers and supporters who clubbed together to buy the pub and re-open it.

Donations to the cause came from as far away as Hong Kong and the pub will welcome customers on September 12 to a festival weekend marking its official opening.

A total of £150,000 was raised towards the cost of buying the pub thanks to a campaign launched by residents and the local community.

The pub will be run by manager Ian Skinner and the head chef will be Peter Barnard.

A beer and music festival will be held on the weekend of September 12 to 14. Live music and a range of beers and food are all on the menu for the launch.

Musicians confirmed include singer-songwriter Abigail Blake, Crackletube, Yve Mary B and Tony Brook along with Steve ‘Skip’ FInn.
