TENNIS: The annual Hunstanton Tennis Tournament saw more than 1,000 players take part.

The event ended on Saturday and luckily there was only an odd shower that caused play to be delayed for a short period during the event.

The tournament started on August 17 but by late afternoon the wind got up and by close of play conditions had become very tricky.

The competitors entered 37 events played on 38 courts. On Wednesday and Thursday the Under 10 and 12 Boys’ and Girls’ Round Robin event was staged, organised by Janice Campbell.

This was for anyone who did not enter the main tournament.

By Saturday the main events were down to the last stages with the finals to play.

The Men’s Open Singles was between the top seed Harry Weeds (Norfolk) and winner for the last two years, against the number two seed William Mason of Lincolnshire and winner in 2011.

It turned out to be a repeat of last year’s final which was a match of the highest quality.

The first set went to Weeds 7-6 who then went on to clinch the match by winning the second set 6-3.

The Ladies Singles was another quality match with Amy Partridge (Norfolk) beating Hollie Robinson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

The presentations were delayed by around 30 minutes due to a torrential downpour and took place at 4.45pm.
