Nine different clubs fielded winning teams at Redgate Rangers’ first youth tournament on Sunday.
But everybody was winners with rave reviews for the Hunstanton-based host club.
A total of 75 teams took part in groups from u7s to u15.
Club chairman Danny Lincoln said: “It was great seeing the Smithdon School field full of young players playing the game with all the children enjoying themselves. 2500 people were in attendance, and there was a great atmosphere around each and every pitch.”
He thanked Paul Taylor, who organised 18 FA-qualified referees, who all enjoyed their day, and were full of praise for the parents and players who all contributed to a great day.
“I thank all the sponsors, who helped so much towards the day being a success; Mark Starling deputy head at Smithdon High School, for allowing us to hold the event and for presenting all the trophies,” added Lincoln, who also expressed his gratitude to the Redgate helpers, committee members and staff who put in hours of hard work before and on the day.
“Seeing the emails and tweets come in after the day makes you proud and the hard work was worth it to give these boys the chance to play football and enjoy themselves.”
Winning teams were: u7 Dersingham Rovers, u8 Clenchwarton, u9 Newmarket Town, u10 Ely Crusaders, u11 Dereham Town, u12 King’s Lynn YFC, u13 Reffley Rangers, u14 Sprowston Lads and u15 Rocklands.
