Brave ‘soles’ are already signing-up to take part in a charity fire walk in aid of the Stroke Association next month.

The Hilgay Hot Sole Shuffle  will see fundraisers walk barefoot over hot coals expected to reach temperatures of around 700C.

Organised by village butcher Ali Dent, the event is being held on the  Bridge Field, next to the River Wissey, on Saturday, September 20.

So far around 30 dare-devils have signed-up for the challenge and Mr Dent hopes many more will follow.

Entry costs £20 per person and the firewalkers are being encouraged to raise at least £50 in sponsorship.

A full safety briefing will be given before the  hot sole shuffle begins at 7pm. There will also be a disco and barbecue.

“I hope we can get around a hundred people to take part,” Mr Dent said.

“That way the entry fees will cover our costs and the rest will go to the charity.

“This is a great opportunity – I’m going to do it and will even go first!”

The person with the most sponsorship will be a Lotus experience day, while the second prize will be £100 to spend on meat or groceries at AJ Dent Butchers in Stocks Hill, Hilgay.

The annual Hilgay Raft Race, organised by Downham Market Rotary Club and Mr Dent, also raised money for the Stroke Association last month.

It saw 14 teams take part and with money still coming in, the final total is not yet known.
