FOOTBALL: King’s Lynn Town face a Pennine trek for their opening EvoStik Premier Division game with a date at Lancashire team Ramsbottom United on August 16.

Gary Setchell’s team play their first home game three days later when Yorkshire side Frickley Athletic are the visitors to The Walks.

The big crowd-puller, at home to FC United of Manchester is scheduled for September 27 but that is an FA Cup weekend and is likely to be rearranged.

Festive fixtures are at Barwell on Boxing Day, at home to Stamford on New Year’s Day and at home to Barwell at Easter.

The final league fixture is on April 25 when Whitby Town make the lengthy trip to Norfolk.

λThe Linnets suffered a pre-season setback as they were defeated by a strong Cambridge United side at The Walks on Wednesday.

The visitors included six players who had featured in their Conference play-off final at Wembley in May and proved too strong, with a 3-0 win.

Early goals from Delano Sam-Yorke and Ryan Donaldson saw the visitors go ahead.

The second half was dominated by substitutions and Cambridge’s third goal came from the unfortunate Dan Quigley who turned the ball past his own goalkeeper.

On Saturday, Lynn earned a comfortable 4-1 win at Spalding United.

Two penalties before half-time from David Bell put Lynn clear and further goals from Ross Watson and Michael Frew cancelled out Jordan Thomas’ reply for the hosts.

λStephen Spriggs will return to the club for his fifth spell, on a three-month loan from AFC Sudbury.
