FOOTBALL: There is plenty to look forward to in the Crown Fire Central & South Norfolk League for West Norfolk teams.
Champions Castle Acre Swifts are joined in Division One by Stoke Ferry, while Narborough have been reprieved from relegation in Division Two and welcome Marham Wanderers, who have been elevated, despite finishing just outside the promotion positions last season.
There was more good news for Narborough at the league’s annual meeting, where they were named winners of the Sporting Award Shield, having achieved a record of only four cautions for disciplinary offences.
Castle Acre were named Club of the Year for their excellent season, in which they retained the championship and won three of the league’s cup competitions. They received the Ricky Brown Memorial Shield and a cheque for £170 from league sponsors, Crown Fire Protection.
Castle Acre Reserves have been promoted to Division Three and will play alongside Feltwell United Reserves, while in Division Four, Narborough Reserves are joined by newcomers Northwold Sports & Social Club.
Other new teams in the league are Bar 33 (from Attleborough), Billingford, Necton Reserves and Scole United A.
Northwold are made up of last season’s Methwold United Reserves team, with Methwold’s first team switching to the North West Norfolk League, where they plan to form a new reserve team.
The new season kicks-off on August 23 with opening day fixtures including Marham v Mulbarton A, Walsingham v Feltwell Reserves and Northwold v Scole A. Both Castle Acre sides are in Birds Sports Cup action, the first team at Tacolneston and reserves at Stoke Ferry.
