New names for flats at Hillington Square in King’s Lynn have been revealed by Freebridge Housing this week.

A major £30m revamp is under way at the estate and feedback has revealed that many in the community feel the different blocks need more individual identities.

The first phase, due to be completed later this year, will be called Millfleet Court, with the roads on either side being named Stonegate Street and Florence Road.

Florence Road has been named after Florence Green, thought to be the world’s longest-surviving veteran of the First World War, who died in 2012, aged 110.

Mrs Green made Lynn her home after working at Narborough airfield and RAF Marham as an officer’s mess steward during the war.

Tony Hall, Freebridge chief executive, said: “People were very keen that we use the history of west Norfolk when new names were chosen, so that’s exactly what we’ve done.”

Other names in the pipeline include Eldridge Way and Gurney Road.
