Rafters took to a Fenland waterway and got well and truly soaked at the weekend.

Teams raced from The Crown pub in Outwell  to the village’s Crown Lodge Hotel.

They were never likely to stay dry and crowds watching from the Church Road Bridge made sure that well-aimed buckets of water added to the dampness.

The event was part of the village’s gala weekend which also included a fun day on Sunday.

Organising committee member Paul Smith said between 500 and 800 people turned out to enjoy the fun day and the weekend raised around £3,000 for village hall funds.

“We hope to extend the hall and put in a multi-use games area as well,” he said.

A committee of around a dozen people hold  fundraising events throughout the year to pay for the gala weekend.

“We have jumble sales and a big race night to help,” said Mr Smith.
