King’s Lynn Stars captain Rory Schlein has set a target of £10,000 to raise for Breast Cancer Care by the end of the season.
The Australian racer will let his beard and hair grow until the last home meeting of the season against Swindon on August 27, when it will be shaved off during the interval.
Schlein said: “Breast Cancer Care is a great charity and one I am keen to help. My friend and mechanic Lee lost his sister to the disease recently and it knocked me back and made me think ‘I want to help’.
“We have got lots of things planned and I hope to reach the target of £10,000.”
Pink Shave The Roo wristbands will be available at tracks around the country and from his website – www.roryschleinracing.com
Lynn had to work hard for a 53-43 victory against Leicester on Wednesday and suffered a blow with Kenneth Bjerre suffering a last-heat injury.
Niels-Kristian Iversen got things off to a flying start, coming within 0.34 seconds of the Elite League track record set by Nicki Pedersen in 2002.
Reserves Lewis Kerr and Lewis Rose picked up good points but Jason Doyle and former Stars Mads Korneliussen and Simon Stead scored well for the visitors.
Iversen won the awarded final race to secure maximum points after Bjerre hit the safety fence.
Stars v Leicester: Iversen 12+1, Porsing 3+2, Schlein 7+2, Lambert 5+2, Bjerre 8, Kerr 10+1, Rose 8+2.
