The future of Bawsey Pits should be decided in a survey which closes on Wednesday.

And residents are being urged to suggest it is used for watersports and recreation.

Site owner Sibelco  is running a survey asking people what the future of the lakes should be.

The move comes after frequent bouts of vandalism and a double drowning last summer.

Ryan Pettengell, 41, of King’s Lynn and Umar Balogun, 16, originally from London, both died in July.

Swimming is banned at the site, but the warning signs are routinely ignored.

Now West Norfolk Watersports is hoping people will back an idea to use the lakes.

The club is encouraging voters to  back the bid to bring a variety of sports from sailing to  kayaking at the venue.

“We want to bring West Norfolk Watersports to Bawsey, but we need your help. Please complete the survey and in questions seven and nine, request motorised watersports,” says the company’s Facebook page.

The lakes were created in 1984 and has the potential for a range of uses and Sibelco is encouraging residents to vote on its future use.
