England’s patron saint, St George, took on the dragon at Downham Market on Wednesday in time honoured tradition.
Resident ‘dragon’ councillor Frank Daymond was firmly put in his place by the hero of the day, Ron Botham, who took on the role of St George during the celebrations organised by Downham Town Council’s events committee.
The Town Square was decorated with bunting and local estate agents, Keystone, donated flags for local school children to wave.
The choir from Hillcrest Primary School also performed two songs.
Events committee chairman John Doyle, said there had been a good crowd of supporters and the weather was perfect for the event.
The celebrations continue tomorrow with a free, family fun day in the Town Square from 10am.
The attractions are to include a children’s fairground ride, stalls and games.
Everyone is welcome to join in.
