North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham has welcomed the decision by Norfolk County Council to pull out of plans for an incinerator on the edge of King’s Lynn.

An extraordinary meeting on Monday saw a vote at county hall in favour of ending the long-running saga.

“This is fantastic news,” said Mr Bellingham, a long-time opponent of the scheme.

“What we must do now is make sure that no effort is spared in everyone working together to ensure that we have in place sustainable ways of sorting Norfolk’s waster.

“This is a great victory for the people of West Norfolk, but there will obviously be lots of lessons to be learnt, one of the most important of which is that no council should ever ride roughshod over local public opinion,” he added.
