VILLAGE GAMES: Downham returned in triumph from the Alternative Village Games at the UEA in Norwich.

The team was made up of several families who participated for the second year running in dodgeball, ultimate frisbee and handball and, for the first time, volleyball.

Though a competitive event it was a chance for people to take part in sports they hadn’t tried before.

Each competition started with a coaching session enabling everyone to try out the skills needed and learn some of the rules.

Downham were obviously quick learners because, for the second year running, the ladies team won the handball competition.

Downham Village Games co-ordinator Frances Rayner said: “‘This is a great start to the year for the team and I look forward to getting ready for the Summer Village Games competition on July 13.

“I will be looking for individuals to take part in sports such as tennis, table tennis, rounders, athletics, football, darts, badminton, archery and short mat bowls.
