It was not a very happy New Year for CWA Fury head coach James Bamfield as his side were beaten 80-57 away at Brentwood Fire on Saturday.

The loss sees the College of West Anglia side fall to seventh in National League Division Four and they are four points behind Cambridge Cats, who occupy second place.

Fury started brightly in their opening match of 2014 and ended the first quarter trailing 19-15, with Arthur Jakiel and captain Rich Milbourne putting up good numbers early on.

But Brentwood took control in the second quarter and responded through guards James Dawson, who finished with 12, and Nick Wookey, 20, to take a commanding 42-25 lead at
half-time.

Bamfield rallied his troops at the interval and Fury came out ready to douse Fire in the third quarter. Eivydas Aleksa helped to bring his side back into it at 55-42.

But Fire held on in the fourth quarter to claim their fifth win in six games. Jakiel impressed for the visitors and finished with 19 points, while Milbourne and Aleksa also played well.

Fury host London Westside II at Lynnsport tomorrow. Tip-off is at 6pm, tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 children.

A busy weekend sees Fury at London United Harefield Academy II on Sunday for a 2pm start.
