SPEEDWAY: Rory Schlein and Niels-Kristian Iversen ensured the King’s Lynn Stars season finished on a high on Saturday.

The pair finished first and second in the Elite League Riders Championship at Swindon in muddy conditions at the Abbey Stadium.

The meeting was delayed for an hour after four heats as efforts were made to dry out the track and the qualifying stage was cut from 20 heats to 16.

But that failed to upset the Lynn pair with Stars skipper Iversen top of the qualifying standing with 10 points, one ahead of teammate Schlein.

But the Australian ace, who only got a place in the meeting following the withdrawal through injury of world champion Tai Woffinden, saved his best for last. He followed Hans Andersen home in the semi-final but outpaced the Dane, Iversen and Craig Cook to take the glory for his second win in the competition.

Schlein said: “That’s the third year running I’ve made the final. That’s not too bad, and to do it with some of the guys here is fantastic.”
