ATHLETICS: Blustery and changeable weather conditions faced Ryston Runners competing on opposite sides of the county at the weekend.

The Fenland 10, incorporating the Eastern Veterans AC championships, saw four Hares win medals – gold for Jo Brooks (W35 94:01) and Jo Isbill (W45 76:03) with Linda Marshall (W45 80:28) and David Lane (M45 90:41) clinching bronze.

Over in the far east of the county, Malcolm Tuff finished second M45 in the East Coast 10K in 36:50, joined by Nic Bensley (37:59) and Stew Robins (39:55) as first M40 team.

The Fenland event brought 2nd M45 for Steve Bowerman (27th overall, 66:39), while Pauline Sparrow was third W60 (89:42).

Lorena Latisaite, Mel Reed and Jo Isbill’s combined efforts made Ryston the first club with three women across the line.

All time personal bests were recorded by Kevin Smith (78:24), Julia Norman (80:37), Karen Smith (83:01) and Juliette Meek (84:26).

Tuff’s time in the East Coast event, combined with Nic Bensley (37:59) and Stew Robins (39:55) to score them in as the first M40 team.

Simon Tarling (50:31, a 4:16 improvement), Jane Ashby (53:03 – 31 seconds off), Mick Ennis (54:23, by four minutes) and Bev Harrod (68:52, 43 secs) secured personal best times.
