FOOTBALL: Major cup hopes are over for King’s Lynn Town after they suffered a second defeat of the season to Cambridge City.
Saturday’s 2-1 defeat in the FA Trophy at The Walks, however, was a vast improvement on September’s 5-1 FA Cup defeat.
Lynn started brightly, and not just because they were wearing fluorescent green shirts for charity.
Chances fell to Andy Hall and Steve Spriggs before George Thomson fired the Linnets in front after 21 minutes with a trademark finish from 20 yards.
Ex Linnet Chris Bacon shot over when perfectly placed for City but they were level when the Lynn defence failed to deal with a high ball into the box and Adam Marriott had the easy task off tapping it into an empty net.
A piece of magic turned the tie on its head.
Marriott, 10 yards in from the touch line and 35 yards from goal, spotted Alex Street off his line and coolly fired a lobbed finish over his head for the winner with a spectacular goal of the season contender.
