CRICKET: Downham Town CC celebrated a successful season at their presentation evening.
Club president Don Rowell said the first team had finished runners-up in the Norfolk Cricket Alliance and the Sunday XI won the Mid Norfolk Sunday League’s Boyle Division One title.
He thanked Ashleigh Corbett for organising a successful cricket week, which saw £525 presented to The Downham and District Macmillan Cancer Care Support Group.
Club captain Duncan Lanchester thanked all those who had made the season a success – President Don Rowell, in obtaining sponsorship, the groundsman and those responsible for preparing the excellent wickets, the tea ladies, scorer Jo Barnard, Lynda and Stephen Sexton who had taken over the duties of treasurer, and Ashleigh Corbett for organising social events.
Lanchester said: “But for a slip here and there, the club could have won a fifth Premier League title.”
He highlighted Addam Todd for an injury-free season in which he made his maiden century and scored 780 runs at an average of 43.33, to go with 43 wickets at an average of 14.16. He also thanked vice-captain Dominic Tulett for his outstanding slip fielding where he collected 19 catches; Robert King, an ever present, and with 31 victims (19 catches and 12 stumpings); as well as overseas player Brenton Wright who at the age of 19 captured 57 wickets at an average of 14.56 and scored 558 runs at an average of 34.88.

The club president also presented awards to the u12 team – Batting: Fraser McManus. Bowling: Noyon Islam. Merit: Ryan Shinn.
