BASKETBALL: CWA Fury rounded off an impressive pre-season campaign with a close fought 77-63 victory over a team of club Legends.
Former stars were welcomed back to Lynnsport to face-off against a new look Fury side, who boasted six new signings, including academy product Russell Bodger.
The 18-year-old set up the first points of the night as he found James Bamfield, Fury’s head coach, on the three-point line.
Bamfield rotated his 12-man squad to give the new signings the chance to blend ahead of Sunday’s league opener at Ware.
For the Legends, Jon Stonebridge showed fans that he still has the magic touch in the low post, while Dave Peacock had 11 at the half with some impressive three-point shooting.
The game remained close after the break with the Legends using their experience to control the tempo.
But it was the new Fury signings who caught the eye with forward Deividas Butkevicius controlling the rebounds and guards Ryan Plaice and Mindaugas Spukas combining with captain Rich Milbourne to put the game out of sight.
Eivydas Aleksa was awarded MVP after putting up 13 points while Stonebridge finished with an impressive 22 and Peacock 17 for the Legends.
CWA Fury return to Lynnsport on September 28 when they host Hertfordshire Warriors in the National Shield.
The game tips-off at 6pm. Admission is £5 for adults and £3 for children.
Fury have added six new faces to their squad. As well as Plaice and Bodger, the team have re-signed guard Eivydas Aleksa, centre Ash Manning and forward Diccon Lloyd-Smeath
