A superb opening salvo from North Runcton’s Dinesh Nalaka and Ben Allsop gave them high hopes of an opening day Norfolk Alliance victory.

They helped reduce Vauxhall Mallards to 18/3 in reply to North Runcton’s 167/9.

But the Brundall team hit back to post 133/7 and claim a share of the points.

Jonny Forder (46) and Prabodha Senevirante (46) had earlier helped Runcton reach 109/3 before Andrew Barrett (25) and Anthony Dobing (20no) chipped in for the hosts.

Mallards were reeling following the prized early wicket of Carl Amos, one of two stunning slip catches by Senevirante.

Peter Free (40) and Iain Kermode (47) made a fine fourth wicket stand of 86 before Nalaka returned to remove them both on his way to 4-30.

Runcton captain Andrew Barrett said: “It was a very pleasing start to the season against a strong Mallards side. A special mention to the debutants who all performed admirably.”

The match ball sponsor was Middleton Aggregates.
