A missed early chance cost Downham as they started their Norfolk Alliance season with a draw at reigning champions Norwich.
Addam Todd and Ian Harrison contained the Norwich openers for the first 10 overs but, after Oliver Higenbottam survived an early chance, he struck 75 of 191-3 before Michael Crisp caught him off Todd.
Downham hit back to restrict the hosts to 230 all out with Paul Harwood taking 4-49 and Todd 3-36.
In reply, Downham lost both openers before the score reached double figures. Pat Yates and Paul Harwood took the score to 68 before Harrison joined Harwood. The pair put on another 40.
CGM Group Man of the Match Harwood went for 67 and the loss of Brenton Wright (34) and Harrison (32) in the space of two overs, swiftly followed by three more, left Dom Tulett and Rob King to play out the final five overs for a draw.
Captain Duncan Lanchester said: “I thought we gave them a run for their money.
“Higenbottam’s early chance didn’t help our cause and he just hit his way into form.
“Paul Harwood had an excellent debut.”
