Unsung heroes from across the borough were given the chance to shine at the Mayor’s Awards for Voluntary Service.

The annual ceremony, held at Lynn’s historic Town Hall, recognises people who give their time and expertise to help others or raise money for charity.

Among the 20 winners this year were Michael and Wendy Foot, founders of the Robert Foot Leukaemia Fund, Gill Southgate, chairman of the Lynn and District Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, and secretary of The Friends of Walks, Edith Reeves.

West Norfolk Mayor Geoffrey Wareham made the presentations on Tuesday evening before guests gathered for supper.

Speaking at the event, Mr Wareham said: “It has been a humbling experience listening to what all our volunteers here this evening put into our community and all for no reward.

“I am extremely proud to live in a borough where individuals are so keen to help each other.”
