A woman was taken to hospital and three cats have died after fire broke out in a kitchen at a house in Grimston on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the property on Church Close shortly before 9pm.

A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The kitchen was seriously damaged. The rest of the property suffered smoke damage. The owner managed to extinguish most of the fire before crews arrived. Sadly three cats died.”

Crews from Massingham, Fakenham and Sandringham wore breathing apparatus and used jets and a thermal image camera to ensure the blaze had been extinguished.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was assessed at the scene and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further care.”
