LIFE during the war years was re-enacted over the weekend at the second War at Dreamy Hollow event.
Nigel Day, managing director of Dreamy Hollow Leisure Ltd, turned the Bircham Newton woodland campsite into a series of war-related scenarios with the help of re-enactors from near and far from Suffolk and also the Midlands.
Attendance was down this year which Mr Day felt was mainly due to the cold weather on Saturday, but, more than double last year’s cash total looks set to have been raised for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at King’s Lynn.
Around £1,200 is expected to be donated to the hospital’s Breast Cancer Unit Development Fund.
This year’s event included an arena attraction based on Winston Churchill’s ‘secret army’ and a scenario of what could have happened if Britain had fallen into German occupation.
Visitors were also able to explore the First World War trenches previously unearthed on the site and Mr Day simulated a trench gas attack.
