GOLF: Middleton Hall Golf Club members have had a busy start to the new year.

A club president and four new captains have been appointed.

Elaine Calvert has made club history by becoming the first female president, taking over the role from Malcolm Garrod.

She presented him with an engraved crystal paperweight to mark his four years as president.

The club’s new captains are Bob Gamble (seniors), Craig Hazelhurst Jeavons (men), Eleanor Kelly (ladies) and Ethan English (juniors).

Truda Foster was presented with the Birdie Trophy by the new president after managing to score nine birdies in qualifying competitions during 2016.

As the outgoing ladies captain, the new president also handed over a cheque for £1,041 to Leanne Tyers for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

To celebrate the arrival of four new captains, a charity match saw £354 raised.

The winning team scored 81 points and consisted of Michael Jay, Linda Jay, Chris Tolliday and Mark English.
