Oliver Clarke takes his place on the iconic Le Mans podium.

MOTOR SPORT: Downham Market’s Oliver Clarke has been enjoying a taste of the high-life.

The 13 year-old kart racer finished third in the world at the Iame International Finals in Le Mans.

The week in Franc was a great test of the 144 karters in his class with timed qualifying, heats, and pre-finals.

Clarke started the pre final in 11th position but raced his way up the field to finish fifth.

In the final, Clarke made a great start and was in the front two within the first lap and after an action-packed 18 laps, took the chequered flag in third.

It was an amazing result for someone who only moved up to the Junior X30 class this year.

Clarke said: “To come through the heats and pre final, with some great results and make it to the final was fantastic.

“The wet track tested me as I had no experience of it as it had been dry on my test visit.

“It’s been an incredible week and being on the podium was wonderful.”

Team boss Keiran Crawley at Msport Karting said: “Oliver didn’t put a foot wrong and, but for a different last lap, he could easily been on the top spot.”

Clarke now flies to Las Vegas in November to compete in the Supernationals.
